“Miraculous Brothers” has released character posters for Jung Woo, Bae Hyun Sung, Park Yoo Rim, Oh Man Seok, and Lee Ki Woo!
JTBC’s “Miraculous Brothers” is a mystery drama about Yook Dong Joo, an aspiring writer with tons of debt who is searching for the truth, and a mysterious boy named Kang San, who has unique powers. The drama is the 11th collaboration in 24 years between director Park Chan Hong and writer Kim Ji Woo.
Jung Woo stars as Yook Dong Joo, an aspiring writer still struggling to find success seven years after graduating college with a degree in Korean literature. Despite being saddled with debt and a troublemaker mother, he still dreams of one day becoming a best-selling author, so he writes novels on the side while surviving day to day by working part-time jobs.
One day, he stumbles upon a manuscript of the novel “God Is Dead,” which he haphazardly transforms into his own work and publishes, garnering critical acclaim and becoming an instant best-selling author. But when a murder in the novel occurs in real life, Dong Joo becomes the prime suspect.
Explaining the message behind the miracle that occurs in the drama, actor Jung Woo revealed that while filming the drama, he became grateful for certain things in his daily life. He shared, “I felt once again how grateful I am to be able to see, feel, and laugh with my loved ones.”
“Our everyday life that we take for granted is itself a miracle,” continued Jung Woo. “The drama shows that the ordinary daily life we enjoy may be a really desperate dream for someone else.” It remains to be seen if Dong Joo, who becomes embroiled in a huge vortex of events due to a single novel, will be able to create a miracle by regaining his ordinary daily life again.
Bae Hyun Sung stars as Kang San, a mysterious boy who appears in front of Dong Joo out of nowhere. Having lost his memory after a car accident in which he forgot even his name and age, Kang San discovers that he has developed the mysterious ability to personally feel others’ pain and despair, as well as see their memories and emotions.
Describing Kang San’s ability as a miracle, Bae Hyun Sung shared, “We all have difficult emotions like pain, sadness, and anger. In the drama, Kang San heals those feelings, and Dong Joo joins him in that journey, making them ‘miraculous brothers.’”
Bae Hyun Sung added, “My maternal grandparents are both ill. I wish a miracle would occur to make all the diseases in the world disappear, so that people could live more happily and without worries.”
Park Yoo Rim plays Park Hyun Soo, a homicide detective who claims that the murder cases in the novel “God Is Dead” are happening in real life, due to the striking similarities between the fictional and real-life murders. Despite everyone else dismissing her claims, Park Hyun Soo pursues the case relentlessly without giving up.
On the message of the drama, the actress commented, “A little attention can become a miracle for us.” She elaborated, “Miracles happen when we care for each other and tend to each other’s wounds and deficiencies.”
Park Yoo Rim went on, “[That’s why the ultimate message of the drama] is that miracles are not far away. Miracles are hidden in our everyday lives. The drama reminds us to look back and reflect on the miracles of our everyday lives that we did not recognize before.” She concluded, “I hope that the positive energy of the drama will lead to a miracle in its viewership ratings.”
Oh Man Seok stars as Kai, a mysterious man whose identity is unknown. He claims that the novel “God Is Dead” is “a novel that should not be out in the world.” It has not yet been revealed what kind of truth he knows, but it is clear that he holds the key to the mystery that Dong Joo and Kang San are looking for. Viewers will have to wait to find out his true identity and how he is linked to the novel, along with whether the clues he gives to Dong Joo are hints or traps.
Lee Ki Woo plays Lee Myung Seok, the president of a publishing company and the younger brother of Tae Kang Group’s chairman Lee Tae Man (Lee Sung Wook). He is a second-generation chaebol who has both good looks and a clever brain. However, despite having everything, he feels inferior to his college classmate Yook Dong Joo.
Regarding “Miraculous Brothers,” actor Lee Ki Woo commented, “I hope that through this drama, we can have faith that the seeds of hope will soon manifest into miracles, and the world will become a place where we can overcome difficult realities together.”
“Miraculous Brothers” premieres on June 28 at 10:30 p.m. KST and will soon be available with subtitles on Viki.
