On July 14, SAG-AFTRA, the world’s largest performer and broadcasters union, officially called for a strike. The first of its kind since 1980, the strike was unavoidable after negotiations failed between SAG-AFTRA and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (Disney, NBCUniversal, Netflix, Paramount, Warner Bros.)
The negotiations included a growing decline in compensation for all actors after the boon of streamable content and the potential to utilize Artificial Intelligence to recreate performers’ likenesses without pay.
