Jungkook’s creative input elevated his historical performance.
BTS‘s Jungkook was the most recent guest on fellow group member Suga‘s variety program, Suchwita.
On November 20, BTS‘s Jungkook officially made history as the first Korean artist to perform at the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 opening ceremony.
The BTS maknae stunned viewers globally with a dynamic, world-class performance of his song “Dreamers,” which was joined by Qatari artist Fahad Al Kubaisi and narrated by American actor Morgan Freeman.
From behind-the-scenes videos of Jungkook’s performance preparations, many ARMYs already know that Jungkook only received the choreography for the opening ceremony after he landed in Qatar.
Jungkook tirelessly practiced the dance until just moments before he went on stage for his performance, which was televised live.
While Jungkook was chatting with Suga, he revealed the real reason he only received the choreography when he got to Qatar.
Jungkook shared that he arrived in Qatar five or six days before the performance, and he was glad he did because he felt improvement was needed before he took the stage.
He hadn’t received the choreography because, initially, he wasn’t meant to dance during his performance. Jungkook felt it would be “weird” if he didn’t dance, so he asked for the choreography video and learned it himself.
While adapting to the already planned performance, Jungkook met with the dancers, changed parts of the choreography, and coached them on different formations.
Suga responded with surprise at Jungkook’s story and shared how impressive the performance was, calling Jungkook a “total superstar.” Suga even talked with their fellow members about how Jungkook was born to be a singer, proving himself to be a proud hyung.
