The Witcher Returns to No. 1 Spot on Netflix Top 10 TV List

-

As fans tune in to Henry Cavill’s last episodes as Geralt of Rivia in The Witcher, the second half of Season 3 managed to take the No. 1 spot on Netflix’s English-language TV list. The chart is based on the streaming platform’s July 24 to July 30 viewership.

The second part, which premiered on July 27, accumulated a total of 7.8 million views. As of this writing, the show’s entire third season has garnered 47.7 million views since the first half premiered on June 29.

Sweet Magnolias took the No. 2 spot, while reality series Too Hot to Handle Season 5 landed at No. 3. The legal drama The Lincoln Lawyer placed at No. 4, with Survival of the Thickest taking the No. 5 spot.

Based on Andrzej Sapkowski’s six fantasy novels of the same name, The Witcher follows mutated monster hunter Geralt (also called The Witcher) as he struggles to navigate his place in a world filled with corruption, violence, and humans that have proven to be more wicked than the actual monsters.

The series was well-received, with audiences praising Cavill for his portrayal of the white-haired protagonist. However, despite the show’s success, Cavill announced his departure from the critically acclaimed show in 2022. Though the reasons behind his departure were not fully addressed, it was previously reported that the British actor had to focus on other projects.

Henry Cavill Passes the Torch to Liam Hemsworth

Liam Hemsworth was announced to replace Cavill as Geralt — around the same month the latter announced his exit from the show. According to The Hunger Games actor, stepping in to play the character requires some “big boots to fill.”

“Henry Cavill has been an incredible Geralt, and I’m honoured that he’s handing me the reins and allowing me to take up the White Wolf’s blades for the next chapter of his adventure,” the actor wrote in an Instagram post.
