New Delhi:

The teaser of Prabhas and Deepika Padukone’s Kalki 2989-AD was released on Friday at the San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC). Prabhas, along with co-star Kamal Haasan and director Nag Ashwin were part of the event. Amitabh Bachchan, who plays an important role in the film, could not be present in San Diego and instead joined the team via a video call. Following the event, Amitabh Bachchan shared his thoughts about Kalki 2989-AD’s Comic-Con debut on his hugely popular blog. The veteran actor confessed that he was not very familiar with the San Diego Comic-Con, one of the biggest annual fan conventions that celebrates the best of entertainment and popular culture. Amitabh Bachchan revealed that it was his son, actor Abhishek Bachchan who put things into perspective for him.

In his blog, Amitabh Bachchan wrote, “The first look of Project K has just been released at this huge film event in San Diego called COMICON. I must admit unabashedly that I had no idea what Comicon meant or was until I told Abhishek, or rather asked him what this is all about and he said with a shocked look on his face: ‘Dad… Comicon? This is a huge deal.’”

Speaking about the Kalki 2989-AD event, Big B added, “And today as I partake in a Zoom call at the release I cannot but be in bewildered admiration for Nagi Ashwin and his team for putting together an astonishing film. I am trying to put the teaser here but am not proficient enough for that. I hope by the morning there shall be sufficient help in doing so. Abhishek’s reaction said it all… ‘Who! This is huge’. Well… Laddo peda all in his mouth for this.”

Deepika Padukone, the film’s leading lady, was also missing from the promotional event. This is because the actress is a member of the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Radio and Television Artists (SAG-AFTRA) which is currently on strike, demanding better pay and more protection against artificial intelligence from film and television studios, and streaming platforms.

Deepika Padukone had previously shared the announcement that Kalki 2898-AD would be a part of the San Diego Comic-Con. Amitabh Bachchan too had shared the big news and said, “I am honoured and have had the great privilege of being a part of this great enterprise in Telugu cinema, Project K and to have had the huge honour of being in the same frame of the Idol, Prabhas…Thank you all…And thank you Nagi Sir, for thinking of me…The humility, the respect and the concern Prabhas has given me has been so so touching and emotional…Not for me, but for all those involved in Project K, may your hard work touch new horizons…Love and prayers.”

The premise of Kalki 2898 -AD, as per the teaser, is a fight between good and evil forces set in a dystopian world.

Meanwhile, actor-producer-entrepreneur Rana Daggubati was part of the Comic-Con panel with the team as his company Spirit Media is the international marketing and distribution partner of Kalki 2898 -AD. The film is slated to release early next year.
