‘The Wiz’, ‘Cabaret’ Amongst Week’s High-Incomes Newcomers – Broadway Box Workplace

Broadway‘s spring newcomers continued pulling within the metropolis’s tastemakers, vacationers and the merely curious final week, with general box office down about 10% from the earlier week however most new exhibits filling a minimum of 90% of their seats.

Topping the newcomers was Cabaret with Eddie Redmayne because the Emcee (full title of the revival: Cabaret on the Kit Kat Club), fill all seats on the August Wilson Theatre and grossing $1,731,227 for seven previews. Opening evening is April 21.

Second highest earner of the previewing or just-opened exhibits was The Wiz, grossing $1,288,057 for seven performances on the Marquis, with attendance at 93% of capability. Opening evening is April 17.

Two productions had their opening weeks: The Outsiders, promoting out the Jacobs and grossing $787,966; and Lempicka, which opened Sunday evening following days of closely comped press previews, with attendance at 94% of capability on the Longacre and grosses a modest $344,080.

Some different notable showings among the many new productions:

  • Suffs, in previews on the Music Box, grossed $609,384, attendance at 98%. Opening evening is April 18;
  • Stereophonic, in previews on the sold-out John Golden, grossed $440,058 for seven performances. Opening April 19;
  • Hell’s Kitchen, in previews on the Shubert, pulled in $937,262 for seven exhibits, attendance at 96%. Opening April 20;
  • Patriots, stuffed 82% of seats on the Barrymore for seven previews, grossing $372,999. Opening April 22;
  • The Heart of Rock and Roll on the James Earl Jones grossed $214,590 for seven previews, attendance at 74% of capability. Opening April 22;
  • Mary Jane, lacking two efficiency on account of non-Covid sickness, performed 5 exhibits on the Friedman, grossing $229,136 with attendance at 87% of capability. Opening April 23;
  • Uncle Vanya, with Steve Carell in his Broadway debut, stuffed 98% of seats at Lincoln Center’s Vivian Beaumont, grossing $995,572. Opening April 24;
  • Mother Play on the Hayes was at 99% of capability, grossing $538,415. Opening April 25;
  • The Great Gatsby, in previews on the Broadway, grossed $944,477 for seven exhibits, filling 93% of seats. Opening April 25.

In all, the 36 Broadway exhibits took in $35,535,214 for the week ending April 14, a dip of about 10% from the earlier week. Total attendance was 292,028, down simply 4% and nonetheless at about 91% of whole Broadway capability.

Season so far, Broadway has grossed $1,360,158,089, with whole attendance at 10,811,417.
