If you’ve been on TikTok at all, you’ve probably seen that many people — celebs included — have been using an “aging” filter to show what they’d look like, well, aged up.
So, after seeing lots of celebs sharing what they’d look like “old,” I honestly was moved by Amy Poehler’s simple — yet so important — take on the whole thing. Amy posted her version of the trend with the caption, “May I be so lucky.”
And I just found it so refreshing to hear Amy’s perspective on aging, especially in a celeb society so obsessed with women not aging at all costs. Amy continued this sentiment by calling aging a privilege:
Another commenter pointed out that the “aged” version of Amy resembled the “aged” version of Leslie Knope from the last season of Parks and Recreation, and Amy commented, “Sure does.”
For reference, here’s “aged up” Leslie Knope in the series finale, and it really does look like that:
I wasn’t the only one who felt like this post was a breath of fresh air — fans felt touched by the point Amy was making, even sharing that so many loved ones don’t get the opportunity to age and what a gift it is. And I just think that’s something we all can think about amid a new viral trend.
Thanks for the message, Amy!
