Sarah Jessica Parker spoke candidly about how she physically views herself and why she decided against the plastic surgery route.
SJP stopped by The Howard Stern Show on earlier this week to discuss life, career, the latest season of And Just Like That…, and more. And in the midst of the interview, SJP got real about aging in Hollywood and whether or not she finds herself attractive.
SJP admitted that when she got the leading role alongside Steve Martin in the 1991 film LA Story, she believed it was Steve’s way of saying, “I think you’re attractive. You can play these kinds of parts.”
Despite feeling like she was getting that confidence boost by taking on the role, SJP revealed she never really viewed herself, physically, with high regard.
Howard started to ask her, “When you look in the mirror, you don’t see a good-looking human being?” But before he could even finish the question, SJP made a face as if feeling beautiful was a foreign concept to her.
“I mean, I’m presentable,” SJP responded. “I don’t really like looking at myself. I never have.”
“I like a fitting and getting into costume, but I don’t know. I think I’m fine.”
Howard then wondered if she’s ever had a “facelift, Botox” or any of the other popular procedures women in Hollywood have been pressured to get during their careers, and SJP revealed she’s thought about all of them, but has never done them.
While she’s never felt the “need” to do those procedures, SJP does see a dermatologist and she enjoys doing skin peels and things like. SJP said she “missed out” on getting an “old-fashioned facelift,” but is okay with that decision because she’s heard horror stories.
“I do understand why people make that choice, because there is so much emphasis, put on primarily women, about looks.”
“I remember when we first went on the air about the new season and there were just so many endless articles about aging and aging gracefully, or Sarah Jessica’s hair is grey — first of all, it’s not, but who cares. But I’m sitting next to Andy Cohen, who’s head is covered in grey hair, and you’ve not mentioned that at all.”
She added that she understands the pressure that people are under, especially women. With all the chatter and opinions that take place in today’s society, SJP said she’s not judging anyone’s decisions and that they should do whatever “makes them feel better walking out the door.”
