Supermodel Gigi Hadid breaks silence on attacks in Israel

-

Gigi Hadid broke her silence in response to the attacks in Israel and stated that they were unhelpful to the cause of Palestinian freedom.

The model, whose Palestinian-American father is Mohamed Hadid, shared a statement on Instagram on Tuesday in which she expressed her sorrow and condolences for the victims of the violence.

Hadid said, “My thoughts are with all those affected by this unjustifiable tragedy and every day that innocent lives are taken by this conflict — too many of which are children. I have deep empathy and heartbreak for the Palestinian struggle and life under occupation; it’s a responsibility I hold daily.”

Gigi also emphasized her feelings for Jews, stating that she did not intend any harm to come to them. “I also feel a responsibility to my Jewish friends to make it clear, as I have before: While I have hopes and dreams for Palestinians, none of them include the harm of a Jewish person.”

When the terrorist organization and movement Hamas launched an unexpected strike from Gaza on Saturday, the attacks in Israel officially began. Since then, more than 3,400 injuries and over 1,000 deaths have occurred. Additionally, Hamas is holding some 150 hostages in Gaza.

Gigi condemned the attacks, stating that they were inconsistent with the principles of the “Free Palestine movement.”

She also said, “The terrorizing of innocent people is not in alignment with & does not do any good for the ‘Free Palestine movement. The idea that it does has fueled a painful, decades-long cycle of back-and-forth retaliation (which no innocent civilian, Palestinian or Israeli, deserves to be a casualty of) and helps perpetuate the false idea Pro-Palestine = antisemitic.”

Hadid’s first public statement after the attacks was made today. Bella, who has previously expressed her support for Palestinian rights, has not yet given an opinion on the situation. Hadid concluded by expressing her love and support for everyone who is suffering because of the violence.

She penned, “If you are hurting as I share my condolences today with my loved ones, both Palestinian and Jewish, I’m sending you my love & strength — whoever and wherever you. There are a lot of complex, personal, and valid feelings, but every human deserves basic rights, treatment, and security, no matter their nationality, religion, ethnicity, or where they were born. I know my words will never be enough to heal the deep wounds of so many, but I pray for the safety of innocent lives, always.”
