K-Pop label ATTRAKT has obtained the trademark licenses for FIFTY FIFTY in four of the industry’s biggest markets.
On July 25, Munhwa Ilbo reported that ATTRAKT had successfully filed and won trademarks for FIFTY FIFTY’s group name in four of K-Pop’s biggest markets — U.S.A., U.K, Japan, and China.
The trademarks mean that even if FIFTY FIFTY members successfully sued to terminate their contracts, they wouldn’t be able to promote under their current group name without permission from ATTRAKT.
ATTRAKT’s lawyer, who filed the trademark on behalf of the agency, confirmed this in an interview with Munhwa Ilbo.
Countries only recognize patents or trademarks that they award. In other words, (FIFTY FIFTY members) will not be able to promote in the U.S.A. or U.K. with trademarks obtained in Korea. Related to this, we have filed and obtained the trademarks (for FIFTY FIFTY) in four countries, including the U.S.A., the U.K., Japan, and China.

Meanwhile, ATTRAKT and FIFTY FIFTY members are still engaged in a legal battle over the pending termination of their exclusive contract. Previously it was revealed that the family members of FIFTY FIFTY had filed and obtained trademarks in Korea for FIFTY FIFTY written in Korean.
