BTS’s Jungkook Shares His Take On AI Vocal Covers

-

Over the last few months, the topic of generating song covers through AI has become a hot debate in the BTS fandom.

Social media accounts, solely dedicated to creating and posting AI-generated song covers in the voice of the BTS members, have increased rampantly. But ARMYs are not on board with the idea for the most part. The ones supporting these covers argue that they have become relatively common, and fans of other artists do it too. On the other hand, those opposing these covers feel that not only it infringes upon the artists’ intellectual property, but by feeding their voices into an AI program, fans are inevitably contributing towards future situations where these tools can be used for malicious purposes.

Though the BTS members have not addressed this issue in an interview or a livestream, many ARMYs took RM‘s lyrics in “All Day ft. Tablo” as a hint of where he and BTS might stand morally on this issue.

But now ARMYs have a definitive stance on this issue from Jungkook, who talked about AI song covers during his recent Weverse livestream on July 27, KST.

The BTS maknae stumbled across some AI-generated song covers on YouTube during the broadcast and expressed his surprise at the sheer volume of such content on the internet. He said that he also checked out the process of making these AI covers and was fascinated by how easy it was.

Jungkook then said that soon enough, people might be able to create songs in a particular artist’s voice through AI programs if they keep feeding data into it at this rate. Though he was optimistic about AI’s ability to independently make songs in the near future, he also added that it will still lack the “sincerity” of human vocals.

While wondering if he could create music with the help of AI if his voice ever gave up, Jungkook came to the strict conclusion that in that situation, it would be better for him to leave the profession altogether.

ARMYs are taking this as a definitive sign of which side of this controversial issue BTS stands on.
