“It’s Just Too Much”: Netizens React To The High Number Of Versions For ITZY’s Upcoming Album “Kill My Doubt”

-

“I’m seriously starting to wonder what even is the point of all of this…”

K-Pop albums in general have been reaching new sales peaks seemingly on a regular basis for the last year or so. While part of it is due to the growing popularity of the music genre around the world, there’s a more controversial side to it that many netizens see as problematic.

It used to be the norm for an album to have just one or a couple of versions for fans to purchase. This was the case with BTS‘s best-selling albums such as Love Yourself: Answer and Map of the Soul: 7, each of which had four versions each.

Now, however, it has become seemingly normal for K-Pop groups to release 10+ versions of an album, making it much more difficult for fans to collect them all and potentially creating a lot more waste from albums that only get purchased for the photocards. It has also contributed at least in part to the sudden and extreme increase in album sales, which sometimes makes impressive sales achievements seem a little less impactful than they would otherwise be.

And it seems that ITZY has joined the increasing number of K-Pop artists are releasing an excessive number of albums.

The label has even spoken about wanting to reduce album packaging waste, and so releasing so many versions of Kill My Doubt seems counterintuitive to that goal.

They also discussed what was mentioned above, that the increasing number of sales for K-Pop artists isn’t as impressive with so many versions of an album.

Some wish that there would be different types of versions released for albums for fans to have different options depending on their storage and financial situation, but still see this many versions as excessive.

How do you feel about the way that K-Pop labels seem to be going with their album marketing and production?
