“An icon. A queen. A Mother.”
MAMAMOO‘s Hwasa has finally responded to her being reported to the police, and fans couldn’t be more stunned.
Hwasa, who has always been an unapologetically bold personality, is not new to criticism. Since her rookie days, the idol has handled comments body-shaming her or pointing fingers at her character for how she dresses. And every time, she had an iconic response in exchange. Years of dealing with the fact that she did not fit into the ideal Korean beauty standards, Hwasa proudly proclaimed at her own concert that her aim was to become a new beauty standard in the culture.
“If I don’t fit into today’s beauty standards, I will become a NEW AND DIFFERENT standard.” — Hwasa (Mamamoo)

When she appeared at the airport with high-waisted underwear combined with a pair of unzipped, ripped jeans to create the iconic “visible underwear” look (that later became a trend among other idols), critics were left fuming. In response, Hwasa put it in a song and said that everything she does becomes “Hip.”

A week ago, a student-parent organization reported Hwasa to the police after she made some “suggestive” moves during a performance at Sungkyungkwan University. People’s opinions were divided, with some deeming her dance move inappropriate for a university crowd. Others argued that university festivals are attended by adults, and male artists often perform sexy routines on stage at such events without facing any backlash.

This pushback against Hwasa is first-of-its-kind in its severity, given that this time the police have gotten involved. Additionally, the incident occurred in the middle of her shifting agencies from RBW to PNation. So, fans were initially anxious about how it all might affect her. However, a few days ago, the “Maria” singer posted pictures and videos of her vacationing with veteran singer Lee Hyori and other friends. Fans loved the “IDGAF energy” from the singer and felt that it was enough of a response to show that she was unphased and living her best life despite the situation.
What MooMoos never saw coming was Hwasa explicitly mentioning the issue, that too in the middle of a performance!
On July 15, KST, Hwasa performed at PSY‘s Summer Swag festival at Yeosu. The singer wowed the crowd with her hit songs, but the actual highlight moment came in between her performances.

While talking to the audience from the stage, Hwasa candidly shared that her voice was not in the best condition before the show. She then said she was worried about being unable to hit the notes right more than getting sued, and the crowd cheered loudly.

Though people are busy speculating what could be the outcome of this ongoing police investigation against Hwasa for her sensual stage performance, the singer further cemented her reputation as the “baddest b*tch” of K-Pop. From signing with her new company in the middle of a concert to casually responding to getting sued on stage, Hwasa never disappoints!
