“This all just seemed easily avoidable…”

Netizens have reacted after a large amount of content regarding Choi Yena‘s comeback has been deleted.

Yena recently made a comeback with the title track “Hate Rodrigo” featuring (G)I-DLE‘s Yuqi.

Even before the video was released and especially after, the song gained mixed responses after the blatant references to singer Olivia Rodrigo. Not only was it evident in the title, but referred to several times in the video and also on social media when promoting the song.

On June 29 (KST), netizens couldn’t hide their shock when a lot of content regarding Yena’s comeback was deleted or set to private.

In particular, the music video was no longer available on YouTube, and when clicked, it just showed an error before saying it was private.

Yet, it wasn’t just the videos and teasers that were deleted. Netizens noticed many of Yena’s TikTok videos had been taken down, especially all those with the hashtag #Hate_Rodrigo.

While the cheering guide is still available on Yena’s official YouTube channel and her music show performances on the various channels, everything else seems to be gone.

In particular, the only TikTok videos with the song are the ones where the hashtags present are now just #HATE_U_CHALLENGE and #HATE_XX, which allude to the title of the album.

Yena revealed in an interview that she didn’t actually “Hate” Olivia Rodrigo.

During the video, she explained that she loves the singer, adding that she “hates her” on purpose, to express that feeling of “jealousy,” and not because she actually hates her. Yet, the whole premise of the song, including the hashtags, would definitely have raised issues if the Western artist hadn’t been notified.

While the reason isn’t confirmed, many speculate that it was only a matter of time, considering the topic of the song, and that it’s probably due to legal reasons. Netizens even pointed out that if Yuehua had discussed the concept of the song with Rodrigo’s label, there might not be any issues.

While it isn’t confirmed if the removal of the content is due to legal reasons, netizens are assuming it’s the reason as, without knowing the context and meaning behind the song, it seems like something negative towards Olivia Rodrigo.
